The weekly newsletter of The Jerusalem Great Synagogue is made possible by a grant from Fundacion Dorset

Letter from the Chairman of the Board

Dear Friends,

Following the Upcoming Events section of this newsletter, you will find a list of recent Major Donors to The Jerusalem Great Synagogue.  As I have noted in the past, we do not receive any government funding from Israel or from Jerusalem.  We do not charge the many visitors, individuals and groups that come to our facility throughout the week.  We rely on special events (Bar Mitzvahs, weddings) but mainly on contributions from those who recognize the importance of The Jerusalem Great Synagogue as a unique institution. We are very grateful to our donors, whatever the amount of their contributions may be.  We are particularly grateful to those who have made major gifts towards our activities. We hope that we may count on your support.  For further information, please contact Rabbi Finkelstein in our office or by e-mail to:  jgs@zahav.net.il

As I have noted in the newsletters of the past few weeks, we have already begun the process of reserving seats for the Yamim Noraim. Those with dedicated seats should please advise us by July 26th of their intention to use those seats.  From then until August 5th, we will accept reservations from Supporting Members.  We will then process all of the reservation requests that have been mailed to us and accept reservations from the public as of August 11th.  If you would like to e-mail us your reservation request, please either click on "reply" to this email, or send us an e-mail to jgs@zahav.net.il  Please specify the first and last name of each person, male or female, adult or child/student and whether the reservation is for Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur or both.

Our next Lone Soldiers Leil Shabbat Program is scheduled for Friday evening, August 6th.  If you are a Lone Soldier and want to attend the  Shabbat Dinner, please register by Thursday, August 5th  by clicking on the appropriate box at the website  www.lonesoldiercenter.com  or by contacting Daniel Charter via e-mail at: daniel@lonesoldiercenter.com.

We continue to pray for the good health and immediate release of Gilad ben Aviva Schalit and the other members of the IDF still in captivity.  Please add prayers for refua sheleima for those who were injured in terrorist attacks and in the War in Gaza and for Aryeh ben Sarah Leah (Chazzan Aryeh Goldberg), Miriam bat Rachel Devora (Dr. Miriam Glaubach), Amiram ben Reina (Amiram Benshimol), Chava bat Rivka (Chava Womark), Channa bat Chaya Devorah (Anna Schlesinger), Bracha Miriam bat Rachel (Miriam Sheinberg), Chaim Ariel ben Vera Devora (Ariel Sharon), Shoshana bat Miriam (Susan Shapiro),  Amit Yehuda ben Malka (Dr.Amit Schwartz),  Avraham Yeshayahu ben Aviva (Avraham Yeshayahu Feiner), Shai ben Rachel (Shai Peltz), Miriam Rivkah bat Adina Leah (Miriam Strasberg), Yissachar Dov ben Peshe (Bud Silver), Moshe Avigdor ben Rivkah (Martin Herzog),  Penina Rivka Yoela bat Mirel (Penny Bowman), Avichai Avraham ben Sarah Miriam, Gitel Rivka bat Chaya Risa and Chaya Aviva Sarah bat Adel Nechama (Alexandra Morgan Talbot). May they all be blessed with a speedy and complete recovery and enjoy good health for many more years.

Guest Chazzan Moshe Goldberg will officiate this Friday evening (7:30 PM) and on Shabbat morning, Parashat Devarim – Shabbat Chazon (7:55 AM).  On Monday evening, the Fast of Tisha b'Av begins at 7:45 PM.  Maariv and the reading of Megillat Eicha will take place at 8:05 PM in the Main Synagogue.  Tuesday Shacharit and the recitation of Kinot will take place in the Main Synagogue at 8:00 AM.  Tuesday Mincha services will be held in the R'nanim Synagogue in Heichal Shlomo (58 King George Street) at 7:15 PM.  The Fast concludes at 8:14 PM.

If you are in our area, we hope you will join us for our services. Our best wishes for a Shabbat shalom and meaningful fast.  May we soon realize the prophecy of Zecharia (8:19) that these days of Fasting will become days of rejoicing for all Am Yisrael.
