Letter from the Chairman of the Board
Dear Friends,
We've been told that it is becoming increasingly difficult for those from
outside our area to find available hotel rooms for Shabbat Parashat Ekev, the
anniversary Shabbat of The Jerusalem Great Synagogue. The Shabbat is
dedicated in memory of the late Henry Moskowitz z"l, whose many
contributions to the State of Israel and particularly to the city of Jerusalem are golden pages in
the history of Israel. Joining Chief
Chazzan Chaim Adler and our Choir conducted by Elli Jaffe will be guest Chazzan
Yitzhak Meir Helfgot and the Yuval Choir conducted by Dr. Mordechai
Sobol. Please note that on that Friday evening, we are beginning Mincha
services at the time of candle lighting (6:55 PM) and on Shabbat
morning we are beginning at 7:45 AM.
The Council of Young Israel Rabbis in Israel and the Worldwide
Young Israel Movement in conjunction with The Jerusalem Great Synagogue, are
sponsoring an evening of Torah study (in English) on the 4th anniversary of the
disengagement from Gush Katif and Northern Shomron. Speakers
include: Rabbi Aharon Adler, Mrs. Rachel Sapperstein, Dr. Sody Namir and Mrs.
Sharon Katz. The program will take place in our Synagogue this Sunday evening,
July 26 at 8:00 PM. An entrance fee of
30 NIS will be collected by the Council of Young
Israel Rabbis in Israel. Doors will
open at 7:15 PM.
Have you sent in your Supporting Membership application and contribution
yet? If not, please do so at your earliest convenience. It is only
fair that those who enjoy the tefilot and programs at The Jerusalem Great
Synagogue feel a responsibility to support the Synagogue so that we may
continue our important work. If you cannot access the application on our
website, you may write to us (POB 7924, Jerusalem 91078) and we will be
happy to send you the appropriate form.
