Letter from the Chairman of the Board

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to advise you of a very special Shabbat Parashat Ekev on August 7-8 (17-18 Av) in honor of the anniversary of The Jerusalem Great Synagogue.  At the invitation of our Board, Chief Chazzan Chaim Adler and Conductor Elli Jaffe, we will host guest Chazzan Yitzhak Meir Helfgot and the Yuval Choir conducted by Dr. Mordechai Sobol.  They will join our Chief Chazzan and Choir in what will undoubtedly be one of those many unforgettable Shabbatot at The Jerusalem Great Synagogue.  The entire community is invited (as space permits) to join with us for this celebratory Shabbat.

At the initiative of Chief Chazzan Chaim Adler, The Jerusalem Great Synagogue and Beit Midrash Be'er Miriam will once again host Mincha and the special tefilot for erev Rosh Chodesh – Yom Kippur Katan this coming Tuesday afternoon, July 21 at 1:15 PM. in the Beit Hamidrash. Guest Chazzan Dov Heller will officiate.

Have you sent us your Supporting Membership Form yet?  If not, please take a few minutes, fill it out and send it to us with the annual contribution of 500 NIS or $180.  We hope that all who join us for our tefilot and events will derive much from them.  We also hope that everyone will feel the responsibility to assist us in meeting our necessary expenses so that we may continue to provide for the local and worldwide Jewish communities.

If you sing well, read notes, are a bass, baritone or tenor, live in our area, are able to attend weekly rehearsals and would like to join our fantastic Choir, please contact our Conductor Elli Jaffe via e-mail: ellijaffe@gmail.com to set up an interview.

Condolences to our congregant Dr. Laurent Klapholz and his family on the passing of his mother, Dora Klapholz, z"l.  Shiva will be at their home, 4 Brenner Street in Jerusalem until Monday morning, July 20 (28 Tammuz).  Shacharit is at 7:00 AM and Mincha-Maariv at 7:35 PM.  May the family be comforted among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem and experience no further sorrow for many more years.

We continue to pray for the good health and immediate release of Gilad ben Aviva Schalit.  Please add prayers for refua sheleima for those who were injured in terrorist attacks and in the War in Gaza and for Ratza bat Reesa (Roslyn Lowy), Aryeh ben Sarah Leah (Chazzan Aryeh Goldberg), Amiram ben Reina (Amiram Benshimol), Zahava bat Rachel (Zahava Meczes), Channa bas Chaya Devorah (Anna Schlesinger), Bracha Miriam bat Rachel (Miriam Sheinberg), Chaim Ariel ben Vera Devora (Ariel Sharon), Shoshana Bat Miriam (Susan Shapiro), Chaya bat Chava (Chaya Herstik), Chaim Eliezer ben Chaya (Chaim Eliezer Herstik), Amit Yehuda ben Malka (Dr.Amit Schwartz), Shimon Elimelech ben Sima Rivka (Marc Weinberg), Avraham Yeshayahu ben Aviva (Avraham Yeshayahu Feiner),  Shai ben Rachel (Shai Peltz), Yehudah Leib ben Tziporah Rachel (Yehudah Rosenblatt), Miriam Rivkah bat Adina Leah (Miriam Strasberg), Bracha bat Penina Rivka Yoela (Beth Joshuah), Yissachar Dov ben Peshe (Bud Silver),  Moshe Avigdor ben Rivkah (Martin Herzog) and Libbi Brucha bat Sara (Beatrice Shore Gover).  May they all be blessed with a speedy and complete recovery and enjoy good health for many more years.
